English Story, Poetry, and Literary Translation Competition
In order to inspire young generations to love creative writing and literary translation, encourage students to learn foreign languages, guide them to explore creative expression in the foreign language they are learning, and foster language awareness and sensitivity through literary works, Çankaya University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of English Language and Literature and the Department of Translation and Interpreting, will organize an English Story, Poetry, and Literary Translation Competition.
Participants can only enter the competition in one category and with one work.
Deadline for Submission: 22 March 2013
“Let’s translate a story or a poem”
Eligibility Requirements:
Participants must be 14-18 years old and enrolled in High School, Anatolian High School, Anatolian Teacher High School, Science High School, or Private High School.
Participants must select one of the texts determined by the Jury and translate it from English to Turkish or Turkish to English.
The translation must be done entirely by the participant.
All translations must be reviewed and approved by the participant’s English teacher at their school.
Translations must be typed on a computer and saved on a CD.
Evaluation criteria for translations:
Compliance with English-Turkish spelling and grammar rules.
Creativity, accuracy, and originality in literary translation.
Participants must submit one copy of their translation in a sealed envelope to the contact address below, including the following documents:
Contact information of parents, English teachers, and the participant (phone number, email, home or work address, etc.)
Signed parental consent form confirming permission for the student to participate
CD containing the submitted translation
Envelopes must arrive at Çankaya University by 22 March 2013 via post or courier.
Applications with incomplete information or documents, or those received after 22 March 2013, will not be considered.
Participants can only enter one category.
